Frequently Asked Questions
What determines the best choice of treatments for my thinning, loss of hair?
The diagnosis of the cause of your hair thinning determines the best choice of treatments. Face&Mane’s providers can help you with this.
In general, many people with hair loss and thinning will benefit from nutritional supplementation,
red and orange LED light treatments,
certain topical hair-growth exosomes,
and guidance on healthy hair care (eg. shampoo and conditioner choices, combing and hairstyle techniques).
Face&Mane’s ultrasound treatments with hair-growth exosomes are associated with better results than microneedling and PRP, and take minimal effort on your part! (And they are painless!)
Male Pattern Baldness and genetic-based female hair loss is slowed with addition of topical or oral prescription medications. Face&Mane’s licensed providers can prepare a prescription for you.
A severe case of hair loss may benefit from surgical intervention. FUE, follicular unit extraction, is the present gold standard surgical hair transplant treatment, per the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons (ISHRS).
How is a MedSpa or Aesthetic Clinic different from Face&Mane?
The biggest differences include having the procedures done in the privacy and convenience of your home or office, at a time convenient to you. The level of expertise in our providing injectors is assured to be very high and safe, due to the teaching, testing and guidance by our Chief Medical Officer, who began injecting Botox in 1992 and has been an aesthetic injectables instructor to thousands of physicians, NPs and PAs nationally for many years. Furthermore, our Compliance and Safety team has strict rules enforced to ensure safe and effective protocols are adhered to. Additionally, the Face&Mane platform allows AI to assist in the scheduling and planning of procedures to elevate the experience and outcomes in a way most MedSpas are presently unable to do. It is a beautiful marriage of Art and Science to create a more attractive and younger version of you!!
Are Face&Mane treatments performed by licensed medical professionals?
Yes! Face&Mane goes to great lengths to teach and test its injectors, all of whom are experienced, licensed medical professionals. Furthermore, continuing education in aesthetic procedures is both encouraged and required of all its injectors.
How do I know which treatment is right for my skin type, scalp, hair loss pattern or concern?
Relax! Your Face&Mane injector will examine your skin both visually and physically to assess it, review your medical history, and give science-based recommendations. Please note that best results are usually obtained using more than one treatment type, but we can certainly guide you as to which treatment choices will make the most improvement for your particular face/head.
Is there downtime after a treatment?
It depends on the treatment. Tox (neurotoxin, “Botox”) and most filler treatments have zero downtime. The ultrasound with exosome hair loss treatment has zero downtime.
How soon will I see results of treatments to my scalp?
It depends on the treatment. To see reduction in hair loss typically you need to wait 2 or 3 months. To see increase in hair density and/or thickness typically takes about 4-6 months. Some people see improvement a little faster; some see it a little later. Some people have waited so late to tend to the problem that they may need a hair transplant….but even in that situation, the person can much reduce their likelihood of having future surgical hair transplants by undergoing our treatments.
Are the treatments painful or uncomfortable?
There is minimal-to-no pain or discomfort with all but the microneedling procedure. The minoxidil, finasteride, topical hair exosome use, nutritional supplements, Revian red light helmet, and low-level ultrasound with exosomes treatments are virtually painless. Our vetted providers use anesthetic when it is safe to do so and will not affect the final outcome for the microneedling treatments, and our injectors are taught pressure techniques and to use distracting vibration devices to minimize patient discomfort.
Can Face&Mane procedures be combined?
Absolutely!! Your time is precious, and there is seldom a reason you cannot combine the procedures we offer!! No microneedling of the scalp for at least a few days after an ultrasound treatment for hair loss (although this would be an unusual occurrence, considering clinical trials have shown clear superiority in results from ultrasound + exosomes vs microneedling +/- PRP).
How often should I come in for maintenance treatments?
For hair loss treatments, you usually have some minor on-going care to do at home, like use minoxidil and/or exosomes plus shampoos and conditioners specifically formulated to enhance treatments +/- red light treatments, plus possible nutritional supplements…..and have a low-level ultrasound or microneedling procedure once every 6-12 months after finishing the initial series of 4 treatments over 6 months.
What is microneedling and how does it work?
Microneedling is a procedure that uses a cartridge of many tiny, skinny needles mounted to a vibrating base that is applied to anesthetized skin or scalp, thereby causing thousands of micro-injuries. When used with exosomes or PRP (platelet-rich plasma), the hair follicles in the skin are “awakened” and they often produce more and thicker hair strands.
What is low-level ultrasound and how does it work?
The ultrasound device makes tiny microchannels into the scalp skin, enhancing both circulation to the hair follicles, and facilitating the delivery of products especially chosen to boost production of new, healthier, thicker, greater number of hairs from the scalp follicles. In most cases, we find the use of plant and adipocyte (fat cell) derived exosomes to be especially successful. It is important to do the first four treatments as directed (over 6 months), and then maintain at one treatment every 6-12 months. In fact, studies in U.K. showed the low-level ultrasound treatments (which need no anesthesia!!!) to be 40% more effective than microneedling with PRP scalp procedures for hair re-growth!
What is red light therapy for hair regrowth and how does it work?
Using the energy of light between wavelengths of 660nm (red) and 620nm (orange), there is non-painful penetration of the energy to the level of the hair follicle of the scalp. The Revian hair helmet, worn just 10 minutes a day, addresses 3 significant causes of hair loss: inadequate blood circulation to the hair follicles, inflammation, and DHT (dihydrotestosterone) levels which are known to halt follicles from producing new hairs. So it promotes blood circulation, reduces inflammation, and inhibits DHT formation in the vicinity of the hair follicles. As a result, it has consistently been found in clinical studies of androgenetic alopecia (which your Face&Mane provider can diagnose) to give superior results in hair re-growth compared to low-level laser therapy, minoxidil alone, and finasteride alone. In fact, as long as you do the 10 min./day treatments at least 80% of the time over 6 months, the Revian company guarantees you improvement or you get a full refund. In hair loss therapy, we find “more is more,” so when this is combined with our other recommendations, you are extremely likely to be satisfied with the outcomes.
What is Minoxidil and Finasteride and how do they work?
These are medications that come in pill form and liquid, topical form that have been used for generations. The minoxidil enhances blood flow to hair follicles, so they stay healthy and retain their ability to hold onto hairs. The finasteride inhibits DHT (dihydrotestosterone) formation, which is known to be a significant cause of reduced hair production from follicles. Prevention of hair loss, or at least the reduction of hair loss, is the first step in reversing hair loss, and promoting hair regrowth.
Do I need a consult before having my treatment?
Yes, but it may be a short consult, depending on your concerns, and the treatment may be done the same day. Unless you are desiring a full face +/- neck +/- hair and scalp consultation, there will be no charge.
What should I do to prepare for my appointment?
First, make sure your medical history and allergies are up to date in your profile on the Face&Mane app. In fact, we have a specific history form your Provider will review with you to help determine your cause of hair loss. (Note: sometimes it is recommended to have a DNA test done and/or other blood work to make the right diagnosis. Most of the time we do not need to do it.) Second, make sure you have listed all the procedures or problem areas you want addressed by the Injector. Third, review the list of Foods and Supplements that are Natural Blood Thinners and have some arnica montana and/or red LED light therapy on hand to reduce risks of bruise if you are having a procedure in which there are needles. (This third step is especially important for fillers.) Fourth, complete the tasks on the PreTreatment Protocol for Face&Mane Patients (including having a clean space free of pets and distractions for the Injector to treat you). Fifth, relax!
Care held to one standard.
